About

Joseph Macklin’s paintings represent  the commonplace and subject matter that often times has a tendency to be over-looked. There is a constant struggle and  pursuit to depict these very contemporary subjects of daily life faithfully and realistically through the traditional medium of oil paint. Many of the paintings in Macklin’s catalog remain unresolved and therefore without signature until completion. The artist realizes that the work must be exhibited in some cases and that a painting can not, at times, be held onto until fruition. This is why Macklin’s paintings remain unsigned until a shift of ownership.

A native of Jackson, Joseph lives with his wife where he currently teaches art and design at the Jackson Area Career Center. His work has been exhibited/juried nationally.  Joseph received his BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design and is a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshield’s Fellowship award.
